Steady Hikers

Our Steady itineraries are for hikers that enjoy the balance of a challenging day on the trails without feeling rushed. They are for those that regularly clock up there 10,000 steps a day or are committed to improving their fitness in the new year. With an elevation change of up to 3,116m / 10,223 ft on the biggest day, these hikers can fire the engine up when required, but happy to spend most of the time in cruise control as they complete a respectable daily average of 17 km / 11 mi.

We’ve created 3 itineraries for the Steady Hiker:

  • 12 Day (All Highlights): This itinerary allows hikers to experience all highlights along the Haute Route trail, including Moiry Glacier, Skywalk suspension bridge and the Europaweg balcony trail into Zermatt.

  • 12 Day (A Little Luxury): This itinerary is targeted to hikers that would like to stay every night in a private room - this means no sharing, no loud snorers in your dorm keeping you up or smelly socks to contend with! Unfortunately it skips Moiry Glacier as there are no private rooms at Cabane de Moiry.

  • 13 Day (All Highlights): This itinerary allows hikers to take it a little slower at high altitude and immerse themselves in this remote part of the trail, while still experiencing all highlights along the Haute Route trail, including Moiry Glacier, Skywalk suspension bridge and the Europaweg balcony trail into Zermatt.

**Note: Due to the closure of a section on the Europaweg Trail, a detour has been incorporated into all impacted itineraries.

  • Crossing Chelion Glacier: Experience a self-guided glacier crossing after stopping in at Cabane Des Dix to plot your path and enjoy some food on their patio

itinerary 2: 12 Day (A little luxury)

This itinerary is targeted to hikers that would like to stay every night in a private room - this means no sharing, no loud snorers in your dorm keeping you up or smelly socks to contend with! (Unless your partner is the problem hiker…) This route covers most of the key highlights along the Haute Route, only missing Moiry Glacier, which doesn’t offer private rooms in their Cabane. This is a great itinerary for “light-packers” (as you don’t need to carry any additional sleeping gear) or those that are willing to spend a little extra money to enjoy more of a luxurious adventure. No judgement here!

I received more than enough information for us to plan the route ourselves rather than using a private company, which will save us so much money on the trip! Our route was tailored to us and we were given so many helpful tips (where to stay, how to book hotels, what to bring, offline maps etc).
